Roots & Wings

Roots: Aligning Body & Mind

Key Takeaways

What is Structural Integration?

Structural Integration is a body-based modality that works with your connective tissue—the fascia that wraps around muscles, bones, and organs—to restore alignment, ease chronic tension, and support whole-body coordination. Unlike massage, which offers temporary relief, Structural Integration creates lasting change by addressing the root patterns that keep you stuck in pain, misalignment, or stress physiology.

At Roots & Wings, structural integration is the foundation of our Roots pathway. This work isn’t about pushing through midlife—it’s about building the steady roots your body needs so you can regulate your nervous system, restore alignment, and come back to yourself.

Roots offerings help you:

Settle your nervous system and build capacity for rest and steadiness

Address chronic tension, pain patterns, and postural imbalances

Restore grounded presence, embodied awareness, and trust in your body

Roots Services: Building the Foundation

Rolfing® Structural Integration

Rolfing® is the original form of structural integration, developed by Dr. Ida Rolf to create lasting alignment and ease in the body. Through hands-on fascial work and movement education, Rolfing® releases chronic holding patterns, improves posture, and supports whole-body coordination.

What to Expect: Rolfing® is typically done as a series of sessions (often 10) that systematically address different areas of the body—from feet to head, deep core to outer layers. Each session builds on the last, creating progressive change that your nervous system can integrate. At Roots & Wings, Alison works within your comfort level, honoring your body’s pace and capacity.

Ideal for:

5-Week Nervous System Reset

This immersive workshop combines Yoga Therapeutics and somatic education to help you regulate your nervous system and restore a sense of safety and steadiness in your body. Through gentle movement, breathwork, restorative practices, and nervous system education, you’ll learn tools to shift out of chronic stress and into grounded presence.

What to Expect: Five consecutive days of guided practices designed to settle your nervous system, release tension, and build capacity for rest. You’ll leave with embodied practices you can use daily to support regulation, boundaries, and embodied clarity.

Ideal for:

1:1 Yoga Therapeutics

Private Yoga Therapeutics is a 1:1 practice for midlife women dealing with stress, pain, or sleep issues who want to feel steadier and more at home in their bodies. Sessions blend alignment, nervous system support, gentle movement, and breathwork—built around you.

What to Expect: We start with a short conversation and a look at how you move, then work through simple movements, breathwork, and customized yoga. You’ll leave with a few easy practices to use at home.

Ideal for:

Yoga Classes

Roots & Wings yoga classes are designed for women seeking grounded, sustainable movement that supports nervous system health and embodied presence. Classes emphasize alignment awareness, breathwork, and somatic practices—not performance or achievement.

What to Expect: Small, supportive classes that meet you where you are. Whether you’re new to yoga or returning after time away, Alison’s teaching integrates decades of study in structural integration, somatic education, and yoga therapeutics. You’ll build strength, flexibility, and body awareness in a container that honors your nervous system.

How Roots Services Support Your Body and Nervous System

When your nervous system is dysregulated—stuck in stress, shutdown, or swinging between the two—it affects everything: sleep, digestion, mental clarity, relationships, and your capacity to make decisions from inner authority. For midlife women, this often shows up during transitions like menopause, caregiving demands, empty nest, or the quiet grief of outgrowing old roles.

Roots offerings help by:

Regulating your nervous system:

When your body feels safe and supported, your nervous system can shift out of chronic stress. Rolfing®, yoga therapeutics, and somatic practices give your body the signals it needs to settle, rest, and restore capacity.

Realigning your structure:

Chronic tension and misalignment keep your body working harder than it needs to. Structural integration releases holding patterns, improves posture, and supports whole-body coordination—so your body can move with ease instead of effort.

Rebuilding embodied presence:

When you’re disconnected from your body’s signals, you lose access to inner authority. Roots work helps you tune back in—so you can recognize your needs, trust your instincts, and make choices from embodied clarity instead of obligation.

Common Benefits Across Roots Services

Roots clients often report:

These aren’t just physical changes—they’re the foundation for living the second half of life from embodied sovereignty instead of survival mode.
